How to Make Money Writing Online

If you're good with words and writing interests you, it might be possible for you to make money writing online. This article provides some ideas to help you decide what might work best for you.

Steps

  1. Write for a how-to site. Many how-sites allow you to earn money for your self-posted articles. Sites such as eHow.com and Bukisa.com will pay you for views and featuring of your articles. This can be a very slow and painful method of making money unless you're highly dedicated, a well sought after article creator and you also spend time rallying up friends and family to do some clicks for you. It can be a useful string to your bow in general, however, to be able to say that you have these articles online.

  2. Write general article content. There are numerous sites that will pay for freelance article work, ranging from topics that are requested by the companies, to topics that you decide upon yourself. Each site has its own rules and needs, so you will need to do your homework. Some examples include:

    • Associated content - Associated Content requires you to write content, which in other words for those who aren't familiar with the online language, content means articles. Associated Content requires that you write articles for them, they will pay you anywhere from $3 to $40 for your content. Most of the time however the bids that they place on your content are for much less than $10. However, this is still a great way to make money!
    • Helium
    • The Examiner - You must apply to be The Examiner for a specific topic such as health, restaurants, or education. There are positions available as both national or local topic Examiners.

  3. Consider making posts on forums. This won't make you really wealthy by any means but it can be an interesting pastime for a few dollars here and there.

  4. Be a ghost writer. There are people who want to tweet on Twitter, write blogs, and be seen everywhere but they don't have the time. They pay other people to do it for them. If this interests you, it can be a fairly lucrative option for the right deal.

  5. Blog. This has recently become one of the popular alternatives of individuals who desires to earn money on the Internet. Blogging has become so much common that eight out of every ten people who use the internet regularly have a blog. There are several ways to monetize a blog:

    • Use Google Ad Sense
    • Add local advertisements
    • Use different advertising services

  6. Write niche ebooks.

Tips

  • You can also make money filling out surveys but really, that's not writing, that's typing!

Warnings

  • Most online writing is low-paying. Don't expect to pay off the mortgage with this unless you're brilliant or in high demand (or both!).
